From preparing and sowing seeds, the basic supplies needed and techniques to use, to maintenance care and trouble shooting. Presenter will be Dr. Kara Casy, director of urban agriculture and renewable resources at Dallas College El Centro Campus.

Join us for a webinar on key financial and business basics for farmers to manage their financial resources and to access additional funding and relief such as crop insurance and other USDA programs. We’ll discuss basic farm financial management resources for tasks such as basic accounting, record keeping, filing taxes, and budgeting. This might not be the fun part of farming, but it's a crucial part of your success! Learn where to find those resources that can help you succeed!

Presenter will be Susie Marshall, GROW North Texas. Susie has 15 years of experience in working with farmers and food access. She also directs the Food Safety Outreach project for the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, training small farmers in the Food Safety Modernization Act and serves on the Southern Risk Management Education Center Advisory Committee.

This workshop is the first in a series of information and work sessions designed to help you create a written plan to start or expand your farm business. Information will include core concepts of planning a farm business: business description and structures, marketing strategy, and basic financial projections along with online resources to support your business plan. Writing a business plan can feel very daunting, but this workshop kicks off a series of work sessions that will support you in getting through the task with others working through the same process. Facilitator will be Susie Marshall who has been supporting farmers with the business side of farming for more than 5 years and managing a nonprofit for 14 years.
