Are you one of the millions of people in Texas who utilize SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly food stamps)? Are you looking to use SNAP benefits on your Lone Star card at farmers markets in Dallas? Learn where and how below!
The Dallas Farmers Market welcomes customers to use their SNAP benefits with participating vendors on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays all year. The market uses a token system. So you swipe your Lone Star card and receive tokens that are like cash at the market that can be used only for eligible items. No cash can be given as change for SNAP tokens.
What to do:Eligible items include: Fruits and Vegetables | Breads and cereals | Meats, fish, and poultry | Dairy products | Maple and honey products | Seeds and plants that produce foods | Baked goods: wrapped, labeled and intended for home consumption | Jams, sauces and soups
Remember: Ready-to-eat foods are not SNAP eligible. If the product is not packaged and sealed to take home, it is not eligible.
